Soroa takes its name from two Basque brothers, Lorenzo and Antonio Soroa Muñagorri, who bought various coffee plantations in the area in the 1850s and soon became the proprietors of the entire territory. It is a pretty little town set 250m above sea level in the middle of a tropical forest. It has a lovely waterfall and is famous for the orchids that grow in the area.
